A school built on play, nature, and long-tenured teachers.
In October 1984, LPC opened with 24 children, a few toys, and a fenced-in grassy yard. We barely had paper to color on.
But we had devoted teachers and involved parents. In 1985 we doubled our enrollment and added toys, art supplies, a climbing structure — and we absolutely gave up on grass. Now all these years later, as faces change, the core of LPC stays the same: we have fun here. It's a warm, happy, inclusive environment.
Some days we might say it's downright magical.
A few things that guide every day at LPC.
We help children become good friends, proficient problem solvers, creative risk-takers, and self-governing classmates. We want them to be as independent as their age and development allow.
We respect parents as partners and communicate with them daily. Our community works to maintain a democratic, welcoming, and inclusive environment that properly balances education and care.
When you see high staff morale, curious children, and involved parents, we've reached our goals.
A backyard-woods experience, on purpose.
Our nature-inspired playground was installed in 2012 after two years of planning. It replaces manufactured play equipment with the organic experiences children would have if they were lucky enough to have woods in their backyard.
What you'll find:
- A hill with a slide and a tunnel
- Apple trees and blueberry bushes
- A four-surface trike path
- A fallen log and movable logs
- A hobbit house
- Butterfly bushes, sand, rocks, and space to be a child
