Snow Day Policy

How we handle weather closures.

LPC follows Lexington Public Schools (LPS) for weather decisions on the first day of a storm. After that, we make our own call based on conditions and staffing.

  • If LPS closes due to snow, LPC closes as well — but only for the first day of the storm.
  • If LPS delays opening, LPC opens at 9:00 AM.
  • If LPS dismisses early, LPC makes its own plan for the afternoon based on conditions.
  • You'll hear from us by email around 7:00 AM for morning-storm decisions. Afternoon updates go out by voicemail and email.

A note on closures

Our approach isn't automatic LPS alignment. Many Lexington families have two working parents and a snow-closed preschool cascades into cancelled meetings and scrambled childcare. We open whenever our teachers can safely get to the building and the classrooms are ready. Most storms we're open.
